Design, simulation, and test of surface and volume radio frequency coils for <sup>13</sup>C magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy

Hyperpolarized 13C Magnetic Resonance (MR) is a promising technique for in vivo non-invasive assessment of metabolism humans. Despite the considerable signal increase provided by hyperpolarization techniques, low molar concentration derivate metabolites gives rise to technological limits terms data quality. The development dedicated radio frequency coils, capable providing large field view with high signal-to-noise ratio data, thus fundamental task. This work describes design, simulation, and test surface volume coil, both designed be integrated clinical scanner hyperpolarized studies small animal models, purpose provide detailed characterization comparison their performance. In particular, coil inductance was evaluated analytical calculation, while magnetostatic theory employed coils magnetic pattern estimation. Workbench tests permitted us characterize performance quality factor efficiency. Additionally, this Tutorial summarizes acquisition experience reconstruction spectroscopic maps phantom using two 3 T MR scanner. We believe that could interesting graduate students researchers resonance design development, especially studies.
